Classes Begin
And I'm done for the day, except that I have a rather lengthy course of reading and writing that I have arranged for myself during the course of the day.
My two classes were:
Introduction to Mineralogy: This looks fun. Well, not quite. But it looks more fun than I thought when I signed up for the course. Provided I don't screw up the lab and complete the voluminous amounts of work, I should be fine. The lecture today was on mineralogical history: something every Penn archivist should learn a few tidbits about. The class is made up of the usual suspects, and I like the usual suspects. Hopefully, I'll have time for Geounion meetings.
Physics and Chemistry of the Atmosphere: I'm the youngest person in the class. There are two fourth years who were complaining about their jobs in air-conditioned offices, doing data analysis or climate modeling. I was rather jealous. The other two are graduate students, which did not become clear until they described their research interests in terms of what particular professors in the department do. Fortunately, the lecture was all review today, and I understood the review and could have given the lecture. It should be fine. And I recruited another person for the NCWFC (one of my classmates. Another of my classmates is already doing it.) Now if only Core Bio and Drama could go so well.
