Well, it is true that Captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean was charged with impersonating a clergyman of the Church of England, and it would explain this liturgical proposal. Of course, there was a character in Stephenson's System of the World trilogy who was Roman Catholic, a pirate, and a ninja. He was, of course, a Jesuit.
