Notes on the Present Crisis
It's snowing in Chicago. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. Tomorrow, a big teach-in and rally about the war is to be held. What are your thoughts? What do you dream, O my soul?
Behold, all the kingdoms of the world...
Q. There should exist a general and impartial authority with supervision over the laws of all jurisdictions and the safety of their several peoples with power to dissolve sovereignties and rectify their laws in order to preserve the safety of their peoples and the integrity of their international relationships. This court would act as the ultimate court of appeal for all jurisdictions with an advocate for every people and military power to enforce its decisions. Such an authority would be an artificial Rex Mundi to oppose all the powers of darkness and human greed.
A. The goal is laudable, but the means to this end are impossible. You would have a court with an army to back it. No jurisdiction ever would agree to support such a scheme. It would mean sacrificing their sovereignty. Decisions it could issue but its orders it could not enforce. A rogue state has a hundred laws to maintain its sovereignty and a gaggle of arms to back its word.
B. And I quote the Eleventh Amendement to the United States Constitution (emphasis added), "The judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by citizens of another state, or by citizens or subjects of any foreign state.
A. Great, you traitor, we're a rogue state.
